There were quite a few announcements and updates at the Kinda Funny Games Showcase, and one of the more exciting reveals was that Jenny LeClue: Detectivu is coming to Nintendo Switch. This game was Kickstarted a few years back and I’ve always enjoyed the charming visual style and colorful cast of characters. You play as Jenny LeClue, a young detective that is thrown into an adventure that hits close to home when her mother is accused of murder. Not only will you be doing some sleuthing around the town of Arthurtown, but you will also be able to choose dialogue options for how you approach the various characters.

The game is also scheduled to come out for PS4, PC, Mac, Linux, and mobile devices. Check out the announcement trailer for the Switch version below.

Yo-Kai Watch 3 is set to complete the trilogy on 3DS for fans of the West, and it looks like they will be getting the definitive version of the game. The official Twitter account revealed that this version of the game allows players to obtain every Yo-Kai on a single save file. When the game released in Japan, it had two versions: Sushi and Tempura. Another version released later called Sukiyaki that let you choose which version you wanted to play, along with bonus content.

For the West, we combined all three versions into one game. Think of it like a "Sukiyaki+" or Gold Edition. You'll be able to obtain every Yo-kai in one savefile. We still encourage trading though.

While Yo-Kai Watch 2 kept the multiple version structure of the original Japanese releases, it looks like the third game in the series is going for a more simplified approach. With the 3DS near the end of its incredible software run this seems like a great decision and allows fans of the series outside of Japan to see this chapter of the series end in style. It will definitely help make the wait for the series’ next installment on the Switch a little easier. Yo-Kai Watch 3 is scheduled to release in North America on Feburary 9, 2019, and is out now in Europe. Check out the launch trailer below.

Fans of the point-and-click adventure genre may want to keep an eye out for the upcoming title NAIRI: Tower of Shirin. Launching November 29 on Nintendo Switch and Steam, the game stars Nairi, a young girl who has her life of wealth and luxury taken away from her. After ending up in the lower city districts she teams up with Rex, a former gang member, to venture to the mysterious Tower of Shirin. The game features beautiful hand-drawn visuals with a story, world and characters inspired by Disney, Pixar, and Japanese animation. The game can be played on Switch using the system’s motion controls and built-in touch screen for players who want to option. Check out the launch trailer below.

Pokemon Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee are coming to Nintendo Switch in a few short months, and The Pokemon Company continues to release new information for the upcoming RPGs. The GO Park, which was featured in the very first trailer for the game, has finally been more fully detailed. You will be able to transfer any of the original 151 Pokemon and their Alolan forms from Pokemon Go, where they will hang out and interact with each other. You will also be able to play a minigame where you round-up a hoard of Pikachu to earn candy. Specific candy will boost a corresponding stat and the overall CP of your Pokemon. Candy can also be earned by sending any duplicate Pokemon you’ve caught on your travels to Professor Oak.

Finally, it’s revealed how the Legendary birds will function in Let’s Go. While there are no wild Pokemon battles in Let’s Go, when you encounter any of the Legendary avian trio you will have to battle them before you’re able to catch them in the Go style, which will definitely make for more exciting encounters. Ubisoft has announced that it will release both Child of Light: Ultimate Edition and Valiant Hearts: The Great War to Nintendo Switch. While both game feature gorgeous hand-drawn visuals the similarities stop there. Child of Light is a turn-based RPG that tells the coming-of age story of Princess Aurora as she and her comrades take on the Dark Queen of Lemuria. This game can be played with a friend who can control the fairy Igniculus with a single Joy-Con. It will be out on October 11.

Valiant Hearts on the other hand is a story-driven game that tells the tale of five strangers and their trusty dogs as they face great peril and solve puzzles during the first World War. The game is completely compatible with the Switch touch screen and will be available November 8.

While Child of Light made it to Wii U this will be the first time Valiant Hearts will be playable on a Nintendo System. It’s nice to see Ubisoft showing these two gems some love.

Famitsu revealed a bunch of new information on the upcoming crossover RPG Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth. Courtesy of Gematsu, the game will feature a total of 28 party members, with a maximum of five being playable for battles. The game will be focusing on newcomers from Persona 5, with Persona 3 and 4 cast members returning as well. Unlike the first game, where you could choose to play from the perspective or the protagonists from P3 or P4, this game will have a singular narrative with P5 taking the spotlight. This was apparently done to make character encounters more meaningful and to make the story feel more complete. Interesting is the inclusion of the Persona 3 Portable female protagonist, who will play a major role in the story and will co-exist with male protagonist from Persona 3. It’s also worth noting that the game has been in full development since the completion on Persona 5 and is currently 80% complete.

This upcoming 3DS exclusive will be available on November 29 in Japan.

A brand new game in the Atelier game series has been announced that brings together the series main heroines and more for one epic crossover. Game magazines Famitsu and Dengeki have revealed the game’s subtitle as Nelke of the Legendary Alchemists, as well as other details about the game. Nelke, the daughter of a noble who lacks the ability to use alchemy, is tasked with building a frontier town for her father. As you develop the town, characters from previous games in the series will come visit and help you along the way. Previous series characters include Ayesha, Meruru, Marie, Sophie and Vayne, with more characters to get revealed in the future. The characters will not be exact the same as they were from the previous games, and will have new background stories to fit in this new world.

While the main character of this game is not an alchemist, you will still be able to gather material, fight battles, and help with synthesis, along with the new town-building element. Gust will be treating this game as a spin-off of sorts with more traditional games in the series a possibility in the future. The game is set to release in Japan this year for PS4, Nintendo Switch and PS Vita.

For the past year, Microsoft has been criticized for its lack of high-quality first-party software compared to Sony and Nintendo, and it seems the company has heard this criticism loud and clear. During its press briefing at E3 2018 not only did it announce acquisitions of several third-party studios, it has launched a new studio called The Initiative. Located in Santa Monica, California, The Initiative will be responsible for bring new games and experiences to Xbox players. From their official website:

We’ve been given the freedom to explore, try new things and operate like an independent studio, with the backing from one of the biggest companies in the world to do something bold and different. The industry is headed in an exciting direction, and we see an opportunity to create amazing new game experiences of the future.

While it’s unknown when we will get to see the fruits of The Initiative’s labor, it’s clear Microsoft knows it needs better first-party support for its platform and is in the process of solving that issue.

When Cuphead appeared at E3 years ago as part of an indie game showcase video, people were instantly enamored and wanted to see more. While the game has been available for almost a year now, it has returned to E3 in the form of brand new DLC. Subtitled “The Delicious Last Meal,” this game will see the return of Cuphead and Mugman along with a new playable character: Legendary Chalice, who has become Ms. Chalice. The game will feature a new world, new weapons, and other surprises. The game retains to awesome old-school animated style of the original, and is set to be released sometime next year. After officially being announced five years ago, the long-awaited third entry in the Kingdom Hearts series finally has a release date. During the Kingdom Hearts orchestra in Los Angles game director Tetsuya Nomura, via a pre-taped message, announced a release date of January 25, 2019 for Japan and January 29, 2019 for North America and Europe. While this date misses the previously announced 2018 release window at just under a month, it’s nice to know when fans can finally continue Sora’s adventure. Nomura also confirmed that several trailers for Kingdom Hearts III will be released throughout E3 2018, meaning fans won’t have long to wait to see even more of the game. Lastly, the Disney Pixar film Ratatouille has been confirmed for the game, though it’s unknown if it will be in the form of a world or summon.

While the wait has been a long one, this highly anticipated sequel is less than eight months away from being released on PS4 and Xbox One.

While the PS4 version of Valkyria Chronicles 4 is already available in Japan, fans in North America and Europe will have to wait until this fall to play it on their current gen console of choice. In anticipation of the upcoming release, Sega has announced that the Memoirs for Battle Premium Edition of the game is available for pre-order on PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. This special edition will come with a 100-page art book, Collector’s Box, the “Hafen” Tank vinyl statue, and the previously announced side-mission DLC featuring the cast from the original Valkyria Chronicles. Sega has provided links to select retailers from their official website.

While it has been a long wait for console fans in the west, a new entry in this beloved series will be available later this year.

The final two protagonists for Octopath Traveler have been revealed in a May Update trailer for the game. Cyrus the scholar is on a journey to find a lost tome and has the ability “Scrutinize.” This allows him to gain insight from the people he talks to, which he can use to solve quests. Ophelia the cleric sets off to restore light to the realm at the behest of the Sacred Flame. She has the ability “Guide” people, which allows her to reunite people or lead them to where they need to be.

The trailer also reveals that each character has a unique talent. Talents can be used in battle to help turn the tide, such as Ophelia’s ability to let her followers join the fight. They can have passive effects as well, such as Tressa’s ability to find money while walking around. Last but not least, each character’s story can be played simultaneously, meaning you can choose to play each story one by one or at the same time. Wonderful 101 was released on the Wii U back in 2014, and it appears the developers at Platinum Games want the game on Nintendo Switch. At the Reboot Developer 2018 talk held in Croatia Hideki Kamiya, director of the Wii U exclusive, said “they’re still trying to negotiate with Nintendo whether a possible Wonderful 101 Switch release could happen…” via a translator. He even asked the audience to clap see if they would like to see it happen, to which the audience were receptive with a round of applause. Kamiya also briefly brought up the highly anticipated Bayonetta 3, only saying that he would like to introduce new ways to play to help elevate the game above the much-beloved second game in the series.

Publisher 5pb. has announced that the visual novel YU-NO: A Girl Who Chants Love at the Bounds of this World will release for Switch and PC. The announcement was made at AnimeJapan 2018, with this release being tied in to the YU-NO anime adaption set to air later this year. The visual novel was previously released on PS4 and PS Vita in Japan last year. Specific release information, including whether or not this game may be headed west, was not given.

Though not confirmed for the west, this makes yet another visual novel set to release both on console and PC, with quite a few already announced for release outside of Japan this past week at GDC.

The rollout of free content updates for Splatoon 2 continues with the release of a new stage and weapon tonight. Goby Arena is styled after a basketball court, complete with hoops on opposing sides from which you can rain down ink from above. Sadly, unlike the hoop that was featured in the training area from the original Splatoon, you won’t able to toss grenades through the basket. Also out tonight are the Dark Tetra Dualies, which will allow you to dodge roll four times in a row. The update will presumably go live at 9 P.M. EST, like most Friday updates for the game.

Free updates for Nintendo’s online multiplayer shooter are scheduled to continue until at least July of this year.

Freedom Planet, the critically acclaimed indie platformer, has received an update for the Wii U version of the game. The update adds Milla’s Adventure Mode, which allows you to play the game’s story mode through the perspective of the character Milla. While the Switch has been out of almost a year and has received a ton of praise for its stellar indie game support, it’s really nice to see developers continue to support games released on the Wii U. While the update has been available on PC for almost two years, its shows tremendous support on the part of Galaxy Trail to not leave its Wii U fans out in the dust.

God of War, the latest entry in the long-running Playstation franchise, finally has a release date: April 20. The game was first revealed during Sony’s E3 2016 press conference, and features a major shift for the main character Kratos, as well as the game’s setting. Long after his battles with the Greek gods of Olympus, Kratos, along with his son Artreus, set off on a long journey where they battle larger than life monsters and bond as father and son along the way.

Along with the standard edition, the game will launch with Collector’s Edition for $129.99, Stone Mason Edition for $149.99, and Digital Deluxe Edition for $69.99. The Collector and Stone Mason Editions will come with a statue, cloth map and various figures along with in-game bonuses, while the digital edition comes with a digital armor set, along with digital art book and digital issue #0 prequel coming from Dark Horse featuring creator commentary.
