#SustyTalk is all about keeping edie’s loyal readers connected to sustainable business leaders across the world, whilst reminding us all that sustainability and climate action must go on through the current Covid-19 pandemic and beyond. It launched in the early stages of the pandemic in 2020 and has continued since then, keeping us connected to the inspirational business leaders who are continuing to drive sustainability and climate action.

Now, #SustyTalk is evolving from a video format to an audio-only format. This episode sees edie’s senior reporter Sarah George in discussion with Shopify’s head of sustainability Stacy Kauk. This episode has been recorded to coincide with the decarbonisation-themed day on the COP27 agenda, and as part of edie’s month-long Net-Zero November editorial campaign.

After a round of introductions, Stacy speaks with Sarah about Shopify’s sustainability fund, which was created shortly before she joined the business. The fund invests in entrepreneurs working on man-made carbon removal technologies, carbon storage solutions and technologies to improve nature-based carbon sequestration products.

Stacy is also on hand to answer some FAQs about Frontier – Shopify’s collaboration with other technology giants to purchase $925m of credits generated by man-made carbon removal technologies this decade. Other Frontier members include Meta, Alphabet, Stripe and McKinsey & Company. Most man-made carbon capture technologies in their relative infancy commercially and at scale, and a key part of Stacy’s role is leveraging Shopify’s influence to accelerate their deployment.
