For our opening episode of the series – recorded from edie’s shiny new studio in West Sussex – Luke, Matt and Sarah begin by reflecting on last year’s COP26 climate summit in Glasgow, before speaking with three experts about the COP27 summit which takes place in Sharm El Sheikh from 6-18 November.
First, Matt speaks with Gareth Redmond-King, international lead at the Energy & Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU), about how the UK can lead by example in Egypt and what would make a successful climate summit.
Then, Sarah speaks with Jonas Persson, managing director of sustainability & ESG at Lloyds Bank, about the critical topic of climate finance at COP27 and what must happen at a policy and business level to unlock new streams of climate finance.
Sarah then speaks with indigenous climate activist and vlogger Michael McGarrell from his home in Guyana. Michael shares some eye-opening insights into the impacts of climate change already being felt across the global south, and what world leaders must do to accelerate change.
No episode of the edie podcast would be complete without some fun and games, and the episode closes out with a “Top of the COPs” quiz followed by a sustainable birthday surprise for Matt.
