Human rights
DEFINITION: The basic rights and freedoms that belong to every person in the world, without discrimination, and regardless of nationality, sex, ethnicity, colour, religion, or any other status. Human rights include the right to life and liberty, freedom from slavery and torture, freedom of opinion and expression and the right to work and education. Human rights are defined and protected by law – in the UK they are protected by the Human Rights Act 1998.
