Onsite generation

DEFINITION: Onsite generation is the production of energy at the point of use – the site where it is to be consumed. It is a form of decentralised energy, enabling a business to make and use its own energy at a particular location, rather than buying that energy through the grid. In some cases, a business may be able to sell any surplus energy it makes back to the grid.
