This 30-minute masterclass, hosted in partnership with Cranfield University, will explore some of the skills needed to develop a sustainability strategy and effectively communicate that strategy at a board and senior level to drive change.
Brought to you as part of the new Sustainability Leadership Programme developed by Cranfield University for edie’s network of sustainability professionals, this masterclass offers a taster of the full two-day course on sustainability leadership being held at Cranfield University in January 2019.
The online masterclass will be delivered by Cranfield University’s module leader for Managing Corporate Responsibility, Rosina Watson, who will provide practical tools and tips on developing a vision/purpose statement; prioritising the social and environmental issues on which to focus; and developing a top-level strategy for achieving the organisational purpose.
This 30-minute masterclass will be free to watch live at 1pm on Thursday 12 July and will be made available for anyone to watch on-demand afterwards.

The full, two-day course which this 30-minute masterclass is a taster of will then help sustainability professionals assess their own organisation’s level of maturity; maximise their effectiveness whatever that level; and move their organisation forward in embedding sustainability.

Rosina Watson
Module leader for Managing Corporate Responsibility, Cranfield University
Rosina is a third-year PhD researcher investigating how companies partner successfully with external stakeholders to deliver environmental and social innovation. Building on a systematic literature review (accepted for publication in the Journal of Product Innovation Management), Rosina is conducting multiple in-depth case studies of these partnerships, with a particular focus on how differences in values and culture are managed.
Prior to starting her PhD, Rosina spent three years as Head of Corporate Sustainability at Home Retail Group (Argos and Homebase). She also has 15 years’ experience in finance, M&A, strategy and commercial roles at Shell, ITV, Carphone Warehouse and Home Retail Group.
The Sustainability Leadership Programme
The Sustainability Leadership course will be held over two days on 30-31 January 2019 at Cranfield University in Bedfordshire.
This is one of five modules running throughout 2019 as part of the full Sustainability Leadership Programme, which will equip sustainability professionals with concrete ideas and new abilities to effectively embed sustainability into core business strategy.
