Anglian Water set to add hundreds of EVs to fleet

 The water company has placed an order with the London Electric Vehicle (LEVC) for 60 new vans, choosing the brand’s VN5 model. This model has a range of around 319 miles on a full charge, as it benefits from an onboard range extender. Anglian Water already operates ten LEVC VN5s.

Anglian Water has also placed an order for 43 pure-electric small vans and 112 fully electric company cars. 40 of the new company cars are set to be in service by the end of 2022.

Back in May, the company launched its first EV salary sacrifice scheme, enabling staff to lease new electric cars for a fixed monthly amount deducted directly from their gross salary.

In May, the company also launched its new salary sacrifice scheme through Tusker, which allows employees to lease a brand-new electric car for a fixed monthly amount taken directly from their gross salary. To date, it has added 182 pure electric cars to its company car stock.

Anglian Water is installing more than 120 new EV charging points to help meet the charging needs of its growing EV fleet. At sites where the company self-generates clean energy, electricity from its solar and wind arrays will be used to power the charging points.

“Traditional petrol and diesel engines produce a significant part of our carbon emissions every year – so going electric offers an exciting opportunity to build a sustainable future while continuing to do what we do best,” said Anglian Water’s head of fleet services Mick Farmer.

Along with all other major water companies operating in England, Anglian Water is working towards net-zero operational emissions by 2030 under a shared industry roadmap. Anglian Water published its own, specific, detailed roadmap for achieving this level of decarbonisation in the summer of 2021.

That roadmap contained commitments to replace at least 90% of small vehicles with EVs and to decarbonise medium-sized vehicles using alternative fuels. For HGVs, the primary solution will be Liquefied Natural Gas as a replacement for petrol and diesel.

The news from Anglian Water comes in the same week that official confirmation was given of the registration of the millionth electric car in the UK.
